Nissan Achieves Record Sales in Europe

No one can deny that Nissan is growing in popularity here in the United States. But how are they doing in the rest of the world? Quite well as it turns out, actually. Nissan sales in Europe have just jumped an impressive 35%, year-over-year, during the first four months of 2011. Furthermore, Nissan's market share in Europe reached a record high during the month of April.

It is easy to see that, aside from the Sunderland-built JUKE crossover, which has sold nearly 60,000 units since its launch in Europe last September, Nissan's lineup is quite different in Europe than it is here in America. The models might be different, but what we can determine from this is that one thing that is consistent throughout all Nissan models is quality.

In Europe, the Micra and the Qashqai are Nissan's two top models. Although, the X-TRAIL SUV and the Navara Pickup have been known to pull their weight also, with an increase in sales of roughly 60 percent and 70 percent respectively.

"Nissan's excellent start to 2011 is continuing with April sales nearly 9,500 units above 2010, setting an all-time record market share for the month," says Bernard Loire, Vice President Operations Europe, Nissan. "All of our major European markets have shown an impressive year-over-year improvement in the January-April period, including Russia, the UK, and Spain where Nissan is now the top-selling Japanese brand."1

According to a recent press release, Nissan has one of the more salient presences of any overseas manufacturer, employing more than 12,500 staff. In 2010 alone, their plants throughout Europe and Eastern Europe manufactured over 528,000 vehicles, including mini MPVs, award-winning crossovers, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. Furthermore, Nissan now provides the European market with 24 diverse and innovative products and is positioned to become the top Japanese brand not only in Spain, but across Europe in the very near future.
